Dear CEO,

It’s inevitable that at some point in the business, you will have to contend with uncertainties that will leave you unsettled and make you ask too many questions about life, purpose and all it entails.

In it’s most basic form, business uncertainty is any event that a business cannot foresee or directly control but which may have unfavorable results. Despite similarities, the two notions are distinct enough not to be confused with danger.

These variations show that while managing risk can be tricky for an entrepreneur, managing business uncertainty is significantly more. Risk may be monitored and analyzed, enabling you to decide before acting with knowledge. As we describe it, business uncertainty does not afford this luxury because no businessperson can plan ahead for an unforeseen circumstance.

You see, change is constant. The trials, temptations, stress and uncertainties will come, most times gradually, some times in a rush. Let’s learn to embrace moments of change and uncertain times that comes in-between the growth of our business.

These uncertain periods offers us the potential to recreate, reflect and redefine our priorities instead of triggering disruptive negative emotions and fear. The best leaders already know when to engage elements of risk and when to leave them be.

In managing and navigating through uncertain times, I have learnt to do the following:

I change my emphasis from knowing to learning.

I usually STOP and ACKNOWLEDGE my emotions, pause until I am calm and coordinated enough to respond to the situation.

ASK myself QUESTIONS that helps me reflect on the situation to create space for learning.

EXPLORE possible best ACTIONS or clear solutions to move forward.

Then, I draw courage to take actions, remain humble and stay passionate and positive about my goals.

This helps me connect and align myself with what matters most in times of uncertainties.
