Your WhatsApp Chat Is a Branch Office (And Yours Might Be Falling Apart)
Your customer has moved and changed address — but you don't know it yet. Ten years ago,  most customers met your business for the first time at your shop or your office.

Today,  they meet you on a phone screen. They price your product from bed. They compare three sellers on WhatsApp before they ever pick up the phone.

They watch your videos in traffic. And in many cases, they've already decided whether to trust you before they see your office door. That's the shift. And it's why, during a recent 40-day Customer Service and Sales training I ran for my team,

I kept repeating one line:

"Your WhatsApp chat is a branch office.
Your DM is a front desk.
Your status is a showroom window."

The problem is, a lot of businesses are running that digital branch very badly. Many of us are guilty of it — slow replies, bare prices with no context, no greeting, chats seen and ignored. Meanwhile, the customer is chatting with two or three other businesses at the exact same time.

Here's what needs to change.

1. Speed Matters

If you need a few minutes to confirm something, say so. Don't disappear.

"Good afternoon sir,
I have received your message.
Give me 20 minutes to confirm and revert."

That one sentence keeps the customer waiting with you instead of moving on without you.

2. Stop Donating Your Price

Customer asks:  "How much is the gearbox?"

Staff replies: "₦850k."

Done.

And just like that, you've handed your price straight into the customer's comparison table — with zero context, zero value, and nothing to make it feel worth it. Instead, start a conversation.

Which vehicle? What year? What happened to the old gearbox?

Understand the need before you explain the value. Send a short video of the actual product. Then give the price, and the next step.

3. Evidence Sells

In the DM age, the customer usually can't touch your product before they buy — so your job is to help them see enough to trust you anyway.

That means:
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Voice notes
  • Testimonials
  • Before-and-after results
Proof does the convincing that a handshake used to do.

4. Use Your Status Like a Showroom

Your WhatsApp status is a free showroom window that works even while you sleep.

Use it on purpose:
  • Show new arrivals
  • Teach something
  • Share customer results
  • Post a before-and-after
  • Show deliveries in progress
Just don't turn it into "BUY BUY BUY" every single morning. The rhythm that works is simple: teach, show proof, entertain a little, then sell.

5. Remember the Human Behind the Screen

The customer on the other end of that chat is still a person. They still need warmth, follow-up, updates, reassurance, after-sales care, and a reason to come back.

Everything you'd do for someone walking into your shop, you need to be doing for someone messaging your phone.Your Phone Is Your Second Branch. Imagine opening a second workshop and never sweeping it, arranging it, or training the staff who work there.

Sooner or later, that neglected branch starts damaging the reputation of the whole company.Your phone is that second branch.

For a growing number of your customers, it's actually the first branch they ever visit. So sweep it.  Arrange it. Greet people inside it.

Stock the window. Serve professionally.

Because long before some customers ever shake your hand, they've already met your business on a screen — and decided what they think of you.

If this gave you value, share it with someone who needs to hear it.
