Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the MAAAAAD Marketing Conference, an unforgettable event orchestrated by my Big Aunty, Chioma Ifeanyi-Eze. It was an honor to share the stage with other phenomenal speakers who collectively redefined the marketing game for Nigerian businesses.

During my session, I broke down the Four Types of Marketers, a framework that resonated with many attendees. And trust me, you’ll find yourself—or someone you know—in one of these categories.

But here’s the thing: this isn’t about labeling yourself. It’s about understanding where you are so you can evolve into the kind of marketer who builds sustainable success.

1. The Ghost Marketer

This marketer starts a business and then disappears—no presence, no audience engagement, no visibility. They rely solely on hope that customers will somehow stumble upon their existence.

Imagine a shop with no signboard, tucked away in a quiet corner, with the owner sitting idly inside. This is the Ghost Marketer—invisible and irrelevant.

💡 Reality Check: Visibility is the currency of today’s business world. If no one knows you exist, how can they buy from you? Marketing must be a daily, intentional activity.

2. The Static Marketer

These marketers know the basics but are stuck in outdated methods. They depend on traditional tactics like flyers and word-of-mouth, ignoring the power of online platforms.

They remind me of traders who display their wares but never interact with passersby. They assume their products will “sell themselves.”

💡 Reality Check: In a crowded marketplace, showing up isn’t enough—you must stand out. Consistency, engagement, and leveraging digital tools are key.

3. The Seasonal Marketer

We all know someone like this. They show up only when there’s something to sell—festive periods, Black Friday, or during slow business seasons.

Their campaigns create a temporary buzz, but once the hype dies down, they vanish. This inconsistency erodes trust and makes them forgettable.

💡 Reality Check: Marketing isn’t a “sometimes” activity. To grow, you must show up even when you don’t feel like it. Consistency is the foundation of credibility and growth.

4. The MAAAAAD Marketer

This is the marketer we should all aspire to be. A MAAAAAD Marketer understands that marketing goes beyond selling—it’s about connection, trust, and creating memorable experiences.

They tell compelling stories, engage with their audience daily, and make their brand impossible to ignore. Their strategy is built on the 5 A’s:

  1. Attract: Draw people in with magnetic messaging.
  2. Appealing: Offer solutions so irresistible that customers feel their problems are already solved.
  3. Ask: Spark curiosity and meaningful conversations that make customers want to learn more.
  4. Act: Inspire clear and compelling actions—whether to buy, sign up, or engage.
  5. Advocate: Turn one-time customers into loyal fans who champion your brand.

Which Marketer Are You?

Ask yourself:

  • Are you hiding like a Ghost Marketer, waiting for customers to discover you by chance?
  • Are you stuck like a Static Marketer, relying on outdated tactics and missing modern opportunities?
  • Are you inconsistent like a Seasonal Marketer, showing up only when it suits you?
  • Or are you ready to step up and become a MAAAAAD Marketer, one who consistently delivers value, builds trust, and thrives?

The choice is yours. Marketing isn’t just about business growth; it’s about staying relevant, creating impact, and inspiring action.

So, what will it be? Let’s redefine success together.

I’m the Billionaire Mechanic, and I believe in the power of marketing to transform not just businesses but lives. The future of your business is in your hands—choose to show up, and choose to thrive.
